I think that to be ninja in year of 2005 is very difficult. Especially if you lieve in the city (not in the mountines). But the most important thing is to feel like ninja. And to fight like ninja but not with the people around you. To fight with yourselve. This is the most important thing to win your personal batel. To find yourselve and to lieve in peace. That means to accept the fanatical people around you and to forget about them. And to use this energy to improve your own skills - not ninja skills. Your own skills how to lieve. How to be friend of God. And how to help to the others.
The fanatics are fanatics becouse they have no other chanse to escape of the material things. And how real ninja blink? When transform his material body in spiritual. Some people sad that ninja use magnesiumphotomix and blink. But the real ninjas blink when they transform his body. And to do this you need to forget about the material thinks and to control your brain. But your brain always want material things. And this is the task of ninja in our days. To loose every think, to lieve close to the death and to prepear ourselves for the death. Than we can be happy persons.

But should we realy see it as a "battle against ourselves"?

Once we learn that we are realy on our own side, controling the reactive mind becomes easier....even if at times it seems as if our lower self is being manipulated by outside forces.

I like this place already. I,m new here and it,s a pleasure to met you all.
The ninja lifestyle is apealing to me. I think to battle yourself is a good key. You build up inner strength, and learns to master yourself. You also learns to know yourself.
Know yourself know others. Meditation would be good, building up awareness and skills. A ninja would find a use in estoric knowlege. Dont think they could live without it. Kicking and stuff is sort of plan B right?

As for the ninjas, i dont know a great deal so have patience with me.
They vere assasins, the most simular in the modern world would be a commando/ recon soldier. But then it could also be a philosophy, a way to percieve ourselfes. It could teach us to analyze, finding rational solutions and achieving things in a non clumsy way.

Yea, one of the roles of the historic ninja was an assin. They were hired by feuding warlords to follow orders. Like today's elite/recon/military/whatever.

          However...

I feel that these hired thugs are just that, thugs. They sacrifice their honor and their truth when they sold their skills (spirituality?) to the highest bidder.

Today's ninja would be the subversive, rogue anarchist. This ninja has no set image, because image is one of the ninja's tools. They could be dressed in the clothes of a military man, a business woman, a busboy... you get the idea.

The difference, in my opinion, is the amount of 'knowing' involved. I know the word knowing is a tricky word in our day of "epistemological relavitism" but bear with me...

Knowing. Being aware of the subterfuge you are initiating. This knowing sets us ninja (afterall, we're all here to be or become ninja) apart from the common mind and it's delusions.

          ...now for something completely different...

I think to be a ninja is to be in a constant state of becoming, without striving to be anything.

          and finally...

any ninja in the Boston, MA area? i'm two hours west in Barre, MA. Holla at your shadow!

I think that it is important to keep constantly improving oneself.. some would call it battling oneself.. I am more inclined to consider my battle with negative constrictive behaviors that would hold me back from being tatsujin, a whole person.

This is a great message. Don't forget to explore nature!
Also, it can be very helpful to research the origins of ninjutsu,
or find an actual ninja academy!

Also, wear ninja shoes... you may think they will give away your identity as a ninja, but really people will just think youre pretending to be a ninja, and thus shrug you off... which offers additional shrouds of cover and mystery to your true ninja identity.
Ninja shoes are great practice at maintaining silence and control over your movements when youre not in full ninja gear.
